Barack's Big Daddy Pants Day

I'm watching the CNN's coverage of Barack's inauguration and I can't help but think of Bush's inauguration back in 2005. Although, as I recall, the media didn't show us all the protests until after.

I know not everyone is happy. The KKK are doing their part to protest Obama's presidency, but it's pretty low-key compared to the public outcry when Bush came into power.
I'm watching the motorcade making its way down the streets of Washington and I'm half-filled with excitement and dread. I pray nothing goes wrong, but wouldn't today be the perfect day for a terrorist hit? I'm sure the 40 000 security personnel are doing their best to make this a memorable day for the right reasons.
As a Canadian, why am I excited about this? As a citizen of the world, we are all affected by changes in world leaders. Of course, the US is such a power-house in terms of worldly influence that this drastic change in leadership should be felt by everyone.
I'm not convinced that Obama will be a godsend to Canada though. I'm nervous about the changes he'll be bringing to the NAFTA agreement. Also, Harper was so comfortable in Bush's pocket, I wonder if he'll fit as snugly in Obama's pocket (he's such groupie).
But I can't help but think this is a good thing overall. There'll be screw-ups, there'll be scandals, there'll be decisions which will have negative impacts on Canada and the world. But overall, I'm hopeful.
