Celebrating the coming of Irish Spring
We've managed to survive another St. Patrick's Day in Montreal. The weather wasn't too bad, although it was not as sunny and warm as it has been in previous years. This did not dampen the enthusiasm of the people however, so a good time was had by all.
The highlight of the weekend was our annual St. Patrick's Day brunch, which was again well-attended. We broke it up around 12:30pm so that we could hop a bus into town to watch the parade. I was dress in my kilt of course, which I continued to wear outside in the cold (despite many warnings by my guests). However, I was definitely not cold in the kilt, although my feet were freezing due to the wet and slush of the roads. I should've gone with the boots.
Walking about in my kilt in public gets odd reactions, as is to be expected. I've noticed a general pattern:
ai731 and
toughlovemuse about my cats. Newton and Dinger have been living under my roof for about 3 months now and they get along pretty well. Being male cats, they do tussle alot and I wanted to know if some of the other folks had similar reactions from their own cats that must share space with other cats. I was assured to hear that this is all normal behaviour.
Out of this discussion, I also talked about my new Robotic Vaccuum clear: the iRobot Roomba. While it can't pick up everything, the Roomba Sage is fantastic at cleaning up the cat hair (which has doubled since the arrival of Dinger in the household). The Geek-Out factor is high on this item, but it really does a great job at cleaning up the dust, crumbs, kitty litter, and cat hair that can take over an appartment sometimes. And it's fun to watch it go. *grin*
The Roomba sells for about $220 US on their website, but comes with minimal accessories. You can get the same product with more accessories for the almost the same price or less if you look it up on Ebay (which is what I did: I got my Roomba for about $150 CDN). Just remember that you'll have to pay duty on the Roomba if it crosses the border.

Walking about in my kilt in public gets odd reactions, as is to be expected. I've noticed a general pattern:
- Women: women either nod appreciatively or give a digusted/confused look my way (probably because they've never seen a CargoKilt before (also known as a Utilikit)).
- Men: most guys give enthusiastic approval or a bemused look (see above reason). I've had guys screech to a halt, roll down the window, and yell out "You Rock man!"
- Teens: most teens will laugh outrageously, pointing and mocking. It's the age of the conformity for them and anything that stands out or is challenging is to be mocked. Par for the course, unfortunately.
