I've finally found a tattoo that I like, but I was looking for some feedback. Gordon is my tattoo guy who designed this for me.

What I'm not sure about is the star in the centre of the bird. Right now, it is contained (at the heart of the bird), but it's not connected to the rest of the design.

Gordon is redesigning the tat so that the pent is interwoven into the design, but he and I both worry that it might be too busy.

Thoughts?

Seems to me the whole "bird" is made out of the same kinds of lines and such as the pentacle. Could he not effectively make the bottom of the bird into a stylized pentacle or something?

Admittedly I know nothing about design, so totally from a viewers point of view.

I like it, and would like it better if the star was woven in somehow too, for sure. But *where* are you getting it, and how big? If its small...it -will- look busy. if this is a larger piece, it will be very pretty. No smaller then the size of the pic as I see it on the screen and you should be fine, I guess?.... might make an interesting armband, or backpiece...

It's going to be on my arm, between the elbow and the shoulder. I was thinking it could be an armband or stretch half-way around the arm.

I'm getting some feedback on Facebook too and it's also saying that the star should be interwoven somehow. That's what I was originally thinking too, so it's nice to get some agreement.

But I don't want the star to detract from the raven itself. To somehow place the star inside so that you say "You have a wicked Raven tatoo... *squinting* and there's a pent inside!" instead of the other way around.

I know you are thinking armband but this design is just begging to be placed between the shoulderblades or at shoulder height. Raven wings on your back... think about it!

I agree. It is really begging to be put between the shoulderblades. It is an awesome piece!

Here is a rather less busy version. The real deal. . .

Behold the total solar eclipse "sun bird" that inspired the phoenix myth and a whole flock of other mythical sun-birds.
