New gadgets

In preparing for the MPRC BBQ taking place on Saturday (you are coming, right?), I picked up some walkie-talkies yesterday. I'm like a kid with a new toy. [livejournal.com profile] sarahcarotte humoured me as much as she could, but she felt silly standing in the kitchen with her walkie-talkie while I chatted away to her from the living room.

In the last couple of pagan fests, I was doing security and was armed with these 2-way radios. Such fun, and I got to walk up to people and ask "Are you feeling secure? I'm here to boost your security, so if you feel insecure at all, I'm here to help."

I need the walkie-talkies so that we can coordinate the people waiting for attendees at the metro and leading them to the right spot in Angrignon Park. But it'll also be useful keeping tabs on [livejournal.com profile] sarahcarotte during our LARPing game.

Whee! New gadgets!

Those two-way radios are also very useful on multi-car road trips.

Dimitri and I used to use them at the store when we were working on several floors. Because it says 'Cobra', presumably its brand, on the side, we began using codenames whenever we paged one another. He was Cobra Commander, obviously, I was Destro, and Brenda was the Baronness. Whenever I needed to ask him a question the conversation went something like "Cobra Commander, this is Destro..." and so forth. Or "What is your command?"

Once I was on the third floor and I got paged, so my natural response was "I hear you, Cobra Commander, what is thy bidding?" There is a pause, and Ron who was downstairs and was trying to ask me what I wanted for lunch says into the com "YOU are a FREAK."

I suppose the moral of the story here is to pick your codenames wisely...or that I'm a freak. Either way.

And useful when a friend needs a friend as sir hobbes discovered after the Awakening Isis festival this summer. My guy and I had car troubles and hobbes drove in front of us using flashers, headlights and speed to help us get home safely. It was a hair raising trip home!!! "Speed up" "Slow down" "put your flashers on" "run the light" "DON'T STOP!!"

Thank you Hobbes for helping Rick and I get home safely. (all that stress for aa $20 part)
