I went into the city last night to attend a social evening. I parked the car on Ste. Catherine street and went over to feed the meter. I was shocked and dismayed to see that the new parking rates for downtown have risen to $3/hour (maximum 2 hours).

Insane! This means that I'll have to go back to taking the bus into town during the day, but of course, the price of a bus ticket has also risen to $2.75. So if I'm in the city for two hours, I get to save $0.50. Whee.

This is the math segment of the post folks, so arm yourselves with your portable abacuses:

* Spending < 2 hours in the city =  pay for parking (car =< $6 / bus = $5.50)
* Spending > 2 hours in the city = take public transit (car => $6 / bus = $5.50)

Although I know this is practically impossible, it would be great if everyone picked a day and abandonned the city in terms of parking in it. I'm glad that NDG parking gives you 1h20 for $1.

This year is off to an expensive start...
