This past weekend was the last LARP of the season Domaine. I can't complain about the weather really 'cause it didn't rain until late Saturday night and it stopped by the time I got up on Sunday.
It was friggin' cold though. Even with the kick-ass cape
sarahcarotte made me, the chill got into my bones on Friday night. The next night, I had my wooly sweater and socks, so it kept me toasty.
Because it was the last game, I decided to up the volume on my monk character (Rufino). Whenever an evil creature would turn up, I made sure it knew that Mithera (the healing goddess my character followed) did not welcome it here. I was also very vocal about my feelings on the presence of "friendly" orcs and ogres in the village (that their evil natures would only bring harm to the innocent).
Essentially, my interpretation was that the only good races were humans, elves, and dwarves. Every other race was born outside of the circle of Mithera and therefore, evil. It was our job, as followers of Mithera, to defend the weak against the forces of evil, even if that meant enforcing it using the sharp end of a sword. After all, this being was unfortunately born outside of the natural circle of Mithera and we were facilitating it to be reborn within her circle.
If any of the "good" races strayed into Evil, it was our duty to bring them back to the light. But if they refused to change their evil ways, then they would be dispatched back into the circle of Mithera.
Admittedly, this was a very harsh interpretation of the philosophy of Mithera (according to the LARP rules), but it lead to some great roleplay, conflict, and philosophical discussions at the Inn. And if I may toot my own horn, I did pretty well in those discussions considering that I was making most of it up on the spot.
All in all, I enjoyed playing this intolerant, obnoxious, and self-righteous bigot.
There are two more LARPs coming up though. At the end of October, we'll be visiting two old LARP friends in their game as a band of gypsies (I'll be ressurecting my old Valentino character). And then in December, a bunch of us will be invading a Toronto LARP as another band of gypsies, but the kind that don't speak English!
I envision much hilarity as the Ontarian LARPers try to teach us gypsies to speak proper English ("Dis iz an hAPPLE?").
