The stones we bear

I just got back from my brief stay at Lachine hospital. The staff was friendly and helpful and the danger was averted. I will now stop being cryptic and explain.
I was leaving work to attend my evenings activities when I suddenly started experiencing severe abdominal pains. I tried going to the bathroom, but it was uneventful and the pain continued to increase. I had forgotten my cellphone today, so I was going to go home to try to let Ms. Carotte know what was happening, but it was so painful that I feared my appendix had burst or something. Instead, I stopped in the Emergency at Lachine hospital.
They took some blood tests and some urine samples and ran the tests. During my stay, the pain went away quite suddenly. After being there for 4 hours, the doctor said that they could see nothing wrong, but it was probably a kidney stone that had passed.
They gave me a cup and a filter to pee in, and sure enough, I passed a small stone. I have a follow-up appt next week. Otherwise, all is well.
Thanks be to Sam the Elf for walking that extra mile to visit the cafe where Ms. Carotte was to let her know what was going on (I phoned Sam since hers was the only number I knew (since I didn't have my cellphone with me)). Sorry to worry everyone.
Ah, the joys of getting older. Now I'll have to look more seriously into my food choices to prevent further kidney stones. Pain is a great motivator.
