The Final Stretch

I'm on the final two weeks of my contract. Six chapters are *still* out in review (I was supposed to get comments back about a month ago). I've inheirited about three times as much work as I was contracted to do in the first place, but as the rented mule in this place, I just whinny and continue to carry the load up to the top of the mountain.
The problem with this mountain is that they keep adding more and more height to it as I go, they change the type of path I'm walking on, and then add more to my backpack.
It hasn't happened yet, but I'm just waiting for them to tell me "Oh, we've decided to climb that mountain over there. You're on the wrong summit. Loser."
So in the Final Stretch, I'm reminded of two axioms:
"A lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part." (I'll let you know if I actually get the guts to say this)
"Your life, unlike this contract, will soon be over."

We will try to keep each other afloat in our overwhelming workloads. If you keep rooting for me, I'll keep rooting for you. Deal?
