Last weekend, I attended the Toronto Pagan Conference held at the Valhalla Inn. We left for Toronto on Friday in the middle of a blizzard, but at least we were driving out of it as we headed for TO. It was a harrowing drive and took an extra 2 hours. By the time we made it to Valhalla, I had to pry my white knuckles from the steering wheel. Oy.
The conference started on Friday and ended on Sunday and featured academic lectures on a variety of topics including Spiritual Mentoring, the nature of the elements, and building stronger communities through communication. The quality of these lectures has ruined me for festival workshops. It was great seeing old friends, meeting new people, and being challenged and educated by the lecturers. I'm hooked!
I was also invited to speak on the nature of Faith, Belief, and Knowledge. I spent two days fretting about it, especially when I was so impressed with all the other lectures. In the end, my lecture went well, but I know I can improve upon it. The questions and debate I got from the crowd were tougher than I expected to address, throwing me off-guard a bit and I felt like I was babbling at the end. The lecture was recorded and I'll be receiving a CD with all the recorded lectures, so I'll be able to work on the weaker points for the next time I do the presentation.
But I'm already thinking about next year's conference... I think I will speak on setting up Pagan Resource Centres in other cities based on the MPRC model.
On Saturday night, there was a formal dinner which meant I had to skip out during the day and find an alternative to my jeans (thanks be to
lunar_phoenix09 for helping me with that). After the dinner, we were treated to a performance from the Dragon Ritual Drummers. I bought their CD and I'll be working on my drumming skills for the summer festivals and our own TamTams.
And then it was Sunday (the day of my lecture) and the conference was over. We hit the road at 18h30 and got back at about 2h00. I dislike driving at night, but having to fight fatigue is no fun either. Fortunately, everyone got home safe.
Also, it turns out that I have the mental/emotional identity of Magneto according to the
Super Villain Quiz. I'm not evil; I'm just horribly misunderstood. Just like real life.
