Mugged in the Morning
Mar. 15th, 2008 07:10 pmToday I got a knock at my door. When I went to answer it, some faceless thug pulled out a pistol, put it to my head, and demanded $400. I hastily wrote him a cheque, assured him the money would be in the account by Monday, and he left saying that he'd be back next month and for the two months after that for another $400. And then he wished me a good day.
... No wait... that's not exactly what happened. Allow me to rephrase.
I got a call from Imperial Oil today to tell me that they've had to raise their rates, so the $160 I've been paying monthly for the heat in my apartment isn't covering my bill. Therefore, to pay off the extravagant lifestyle that I lead in terms of heating, they will be taking $400 from my account for the next four months. And then she wished me a good day.
Sorry... I'm having difficulty telling those two scenarios apart.
And in case you were wondering, I turn the heat on about mid-October and turn it off in April. The heat goes on for 3 hours in the morning and 4 hours in the evening, raising the temp to 22 degrees centigrade. I have now reduced it to 2 hours per period and lowered it to 19 degrees, but in the meantime, I have turned it off.
