Immotalizing the Man behind the Son
Apr. 25th, 2008 11:17 amA few weeks ago, I had an idea on how to pay tribute to my father's memory in a way that I could appreciate in my day-to-day life. I decided I wanted to get a tattoo of my father's face, but I wanted to also mix it with imagery of my chosen faith.
One of my father's passions was woodworking. He loved creating with his hands and every part of my parent's house is a pure expression of my father's skill with wood and construction. Although I never really picked up his skill in woodworking, as a writer, I also work with my hands.
So I thought a fitting tribute would be to work my father's face into a Greenman design and tattoo this image on the inside of my wrist near the hands that shaped both our lives. I was recommended a tattoo artist by a friend, sent her some greenman designs I liked, as well as headshots of my father.
Here's what the artist came up with. I think she really captured my father's eyes well, although I think I want more of his forehead to show before the leaf-line begins.
Any thoughts? I would really appreciate your feedback on this.
