Dinger's back. Here's what happened.
After canvasing the neighborhood with posters, Ms. Carotte and I went up and down the streets and alleyways searching for Dinger. No luck.
We returned home, made supper, and sulked. I kept looking off the front and back balcony, then got the idea that maybe Dinger couldn't find the second floor because he couldn't smell Newton. So I grabbed some poop from the litterbox and placed it in the front and back of the house.
We then placed a bowl of food on the back balcony (because the neighbors reported seeing him in the alley way), hoping to draw him upstairs.
Around 11:30pm, I went out the back balcony for one last look. I looked down and noticed that the bowl was empty. My first thought was that the neighborhood cats had eaten it, but when I looked down into my landlord's yard, I spotted Dinger at the bottom of the stairs.
Relieved, I managed to coax him up the stairs into my arms. I deposited him into the overjoyed arms of Ms. Carotte, so all is well.
My thanks to all the well-wishers who sent their prayers and good thoughts for his safe return. My thanks to the gods who wafted the smell of the kitty poop into his nostrils, leading him back home.

I was already worried for him and I just found out that he was missing.
I'm so glad he's home!
