Here's a politically touchy subject. We all know that Bruce Wayne would've been dead on the table if it weren't for Alfred patching him up, making him sandwiches, and keeping the manor and the cave in fine working order. Alfred has never been Bruce's slave, has always been his partner, always been his equal.

If you had the funds, who would you want as your personal Alfred-like butler, your partner in crime. No, do not assume you dress in tights and save the city from evil. You're just you with unlimited funds, your life is the way you always dreamed it to be, and you employ the services of a butler or assistant to keep everything together. Who would it be?

If you must reach out to the fantasy world, go ahead. Try to avoid existing boyfriend/girlfriend/spouses. I would be more interested to hear you list someone you would personally know that you would love to have at your side as your Alfred.

Update:

As [livejournal.com profile] lunar_phoenix09  pointed out, I didn't answer my own question, so here it is:
  • Fictional: Kato Fong: although he'd probably kill me the first time I came home.
  • Fictional: Friar Tuck: philosopher and bouncer! And my quarter-staff skill would be l33t.
  • Real Life: Tim Curry: He'd have to agree to keep the fishnet stockings hidden until Halloween.
  • Real Life: Vin Diesel: Geek and badass. My coolness level would skyrocket.

So you want us to figure out who we would have fulfill the role of Alfred, other than the folks we may already have filling that role?

Frankly, that seems a strange request. I looked around for 30 years before I found someone who I could rely on as well as my wife, and it would probably take as long to find a replacement.

Yes, but what if you were looking for an Alfred to serve you and your wife's needs? You and your lady, living in the mansion, with your butler dealing with the dailies.

Is that more specific?

Sure, but then the answer is that I don't know anyone who would be suitable. And that includes fictitious characters. I've always wondered how you could find someone as loyal and trustworthy as Alfred. It would seem a daunting task.

Well, let's see. There's:

Max, the butler in Hart to Hart
Barrymore, the butler in The Hound of the Baskervilles
Mr. French, from A Family Affair
Geoffrey Butler from The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air
Riff-Raff from the Rocky Horror Show
Edwin Jarvis the Avengers (Marvel Comics)
Tim Curry, who has played a slew of butler-type roles in various movies
Barney Thompson (played by Hector Elizondo), who was the Hotel Manager in Pretty Woman

And not one of them is a person that I would want to make a part of my family, like Alfred is a part of Bruce Wayne's.

There has to be a suitable mesh of personalities for that.

No contest!

Jeeves, the manservant in Jeeves and Wooster (stories/BBC series). He can do anything, he knows everything, he can bail me out of the nastiest situation, he can make me a proper tea every afternoon, and do it all with impeccable British manners and reserve.

Hmm I like this quesion actually. To be different I hink I'll go with Gordon Ramsey... Heehee Makes good healthy food, and can tell anyone off. What more do I need? lol

Specifically I don't know, but that would probably be my first guess. I'll think about it some more though and come up with something better.

But you do realize that you didn't answer your own question.

hmmmm

this is difficult, but Kwai Chang Caine comes to mind, yvonnova from Bab 5, Mr. Kesuke Miyagi from the Karate Kid, Mr. Roarke from Fantasy Island,

That is all I can come up with for now.

OH you mean from anyone in the known and unknown universe, not just limited to people we actually know. Here I was wracking my brains thinking about who in all the people I know I would trust with such a position.

Given that I am not, in point of fact, limited by the constraints of reality, then my choice of my own personal Alfred would be...

Alfred Pennyworth, duh. *eyeroll*
