Whew... the parents came and went without incident. Of course, [livejournal.com profile] sarahcarotte wowed them with her culinary ways, although my mum is still unnerved by my cat Newton (she's never liked pets). They loved the new place and they even semi-approved my thoughts on buying a car (they usually tell me that I shouldn't waste my money on frivolous things).

The only thing that worries me is that my mum started going through my "philosophy" books until I steered her over to the storytelling books. My dad looked slightly alarmed at the sight of the altar with the candles, tarot cards, and the pentagram, but he said nothng. [livejournal.com profile] sarahcarotte laughed saying that they probably think that it's her stuff, which is completely laughable since she is a devout Christian.

The Christmas holidays may contain an uncomfortable conversation with my parents. If they ask, I certainly won't lie about being Pagan, but's a topic I've been dodging with them for awhile. I just don't want them to worry needlessly.

*lol* see, one of the reasons i can't be persuaded to choose a religion (or a path) or anything is because i love celebrating any holiday. i couldn't be persuaded to give up the candelit service at my church, or my tree. or all the presents!!!

There's no reason why you have to give up anything to follow any religious path. I still put up my tree and I'll attend Christmas mass whenever I can.

Growing up catholic was a good experience for me, but as I grew older, I found it didn't respond to my needs. But that doesn't mean I can't appreciate all the great things about going to church.

It's your spiritual path and you can enjoy it anyway you please. Anyone who tells you that you can't enjoy a Christian tradition because you're Pagan has completely missed the point.

Why would they worry ? It's your life, besides it's not as if you were satanist... but I can understand the feeling though, I hid my roleplaying stuff out of parental sight for many months... untill they found out and my mom wasn't pleased at all (she viewed it as a pagan game which could lead me to violent acts in real life !!!)... I think it is a good thing to have an open conversation with them about your beliefs and what it is exactly, if you can find the right way to explain it... What they have heard of it is probably far worse than what it is really... in any ways, good luck !
