Phone Call Recognition
May. 18th, 2007 09:53 amI got a call a couple of days ago from The Canada Council for the Arts that just now returned. The deadline for grant submissions in the Writing and Publishing program was in April, so the council is now evaluating the submissions to decide who gets their grants.
I haven't submitted a grant this year, so I was confused to why they were calling me. It turns out that the Canada Council was inviting me, as a storyteller, to sit on the judging committee for the Writing and Publishing program.
Unfortunately, this is a week-long commitment and I cannot afford to be away from Autodesk for that long, so I had to turn it down. I let them know that I was extremely flattered and honored to be invited, and to call me next year when I would probably be more available.
This would have been quite the feather in my cap had I accepted the job, but my schedule just won't allow it this year. Poop.
Still... maybe getting a call like that is some form of national recognition of my talents as a storyteller? Or maybe it means I'm the only storyteller in Canada that hasn't applied for a grant this year.
Hmmm... I'll go with the recognition thing. Yay! Recognition!
