May. 27th, 2007 11:29 pmFor the past two days, I've been manning a booth at the Baby Boomers Trade Show at the Palais des Congres (Place D'armes metro). These are people who were born shortly after WWII, so by now they are in their 60's-70's. This is pretty much my target audience in terms of my Biography service.
Typically, these types of Trade Shows are supposed to draw 30 000 to 40 000 people over the two days. But this year, for a few reasons including 1) the transit strike and 2) the gorgeous weather, Saturday only brought in 8000 people, and Sunday brought in about twice that amount (exact numbers to be determned).
But for me, I needed to prepare for this show, so I made 6000 business cards and 5000 flyers (as was recommended to me by my partner who has done these types of trade shows before). With some help from my new business partners, we also shot a promotional video.
However, by the end of today (Sunday), we only managed to hand out about 250 flyers and maybe about 150 business cards. Yikes.
Fortunately, these types of advertising tools tend to keep well and I really did need a French version of my pamphlet, so it's not really a lost cause.
Still, that's 250 people who showed enough interest in the product to take a pamphlet. If only 10 of those people follow-up, I'll be busy for the next couple of years at least.
Staying hopeful. My feet hurt.
