So after having supper with my mum, she decides to retire early at 10pm. I, on the other hand, decide to go for a drive in Old Quebec. I would've called my friend Genvieve, but I only realize when I'm in the city that I don't have her number with me. Drat.

I found a parking spot right in Old Quebec pretty easily, so I decided to visit some of my old haunts. My first stop is the Dagobert, which has not changed one bit in the last 20 years. I got a drink, headed upstairs, and found a spot overlooking the dance floor. Immediately, I spotted a woman in a black dress dancing by herself. I remarked upon her mainly because she's tall (about my height) and quite striking. About 10 minutes after I sat down with my drink, the tall girl and her friends pick-up and leave. I left about 30 minutes later.

It's a warm night, so I walked down to la rue St. Jean and stopped in a pub St.Patrick for a 1/2 pint and to listen to the band. Next, I walked back up St. Jean and stopped in at Bar Chez Son Pere to listen to the singer. Fun place!

It's a bit after midnight when I start walking back up Grand Allée back to car. Then, about 200 feet in front of me, two cars assume they have the green light at an intersection and collide with a sickening crunch. I run over to see if anyone is hurt, but before I get there, I'm stunned to see the tall girl in the black dress step out of one of the cars, yelling angrily at the driver of the other car!

Fortunately, no one is hurt, but everyone is plenty angry. By the time I make it to my car, the cops, ambulance, and the firetruck arrive on the scene.

But what are the odds of seeing a girl at 10pm, and then witness an accident 2 hours later with her being involved? I need to buy a lottery ticket tomorrow...

*sigh*

There's been an accident today involving [profile] sarahcarotte. She's still alive and kicking (the kicking is important), but she's been injured. I wasn't present for this since I was return from visiting my Mum in Quebec city, but apparently Ms. Carotte was out with friends in Old Montreal seeing the sights. Getting the wheelchair over the cobblestones was tricky, but they were managing until The Incident.

The wheels on the chair locked and [profile] sarahcarotte was projected out of the chair unto the sidewalk. To make matters worse, the Admiral (who was pushing the chair at the time) was carried forward by the momentum and land atop Ms. Carotte's back.

And this is the breaking point, quite literally. The impact of the Admiral falling on [profile] sarahcarotte's back has broken one or two vertebrae (according to the initial X-Rays). We'll be getting confirmation tomorrow when she sees the specialist. So as of this moment (Sunday night), she's resting uncomfortably in the Emergency of l'Hotel Dieu de Montreal.

The good news is that there's no apparent spinal or neurological damage beyond the bones being broken and her leg is still okay. Mentally and emotionally, this comes at the worst possible time. [profile] sarahcarotte was supposed to get her cast removed on Wednesday. We were looking forward to full recovery from her surgery and now this.

I will keep you all posted on what will happen and what action we will be taking. Right now, I'm just too numb.
