Joined a few friends (both expected and unexpected) at Metropolis last night to catch the Flogging Molly concert. I haven't enjoyed a concert like that in quite a while. My ears were ringing soundly by the time we got home.

There were two opening acts before Flogging Molly: Dusty Rhodes and Rev. Peyton's Big Damn Band. When Rhodes came out playing his keyboard, I turned to Tal and said "I can't take that guy seriously... his curly hair makes him look like Weird Al." This impression was later cemented when Rhodes strapped on his accordion.

Don't get me wrong. If I had the patience, I would totally learn how to play the accordion.

The second act was The Big Damn Band and they made a Huge Damn Impression on us. It was one guy on guitar, his wife on washboard, and a drummer. I had never heard anything like it, so of course, I had to buy one of their albums. In hindsight, I should've bought both. Ah well... I'll be keeping an eye out for the good reverand, so there should be other opportunities to pick up the second album.

And lastly, FMolly came on at 10pm. They sounded very much like The Mahones, but with more thrash. There was a huge mosh pit in front, lots of crowd surfing, and an appreciative crowd without much use for restraint.

All in all, a fantastic night that was much more suited for a Friday. Getting into work today was a trial that would have been less of an issue for a younger man.
