Sleep Deprivation Take its Toll
Aug. 12th, 2008 12:03 pmI've been suffering from sleep apnia for years, but in the past year, the effects of my apnia are becoming difficult to ignore. In the past few months, I've been struggling with staying awake during the day. At best, I tend to nod off during my work day. At worst, I've been falling asleep at the wheel in the middle of the day, in the middle of the city, in the middle of the road.
Not good. *yawn*
I've had access to the solution for a couple of months now, but because the money flow was interupted, I was waiting for the contract to kick in. In the meantime, I struggle.
I should get paid this week, and when I do, I'll be marching off to the CPAP shop. Unfortunately, the CPAP machine costs $2000, but I can rent it for 3 months at $150/month. That rental money can go towards paying off the whole unit, and after three months, I'll know if it works for me.
I sure hope it does because I can't go on like this. Suffering from a lack of sleep has cost me in many ways. I'm convinced that I lost my position at Autodesk because I could not hold onto all the things I had to manage during my work (almost every day, I had to leave the office to take a nap in the car for 30 minutes).
Also, just thinking about how many times I would nibble during the day to keep myself awake, it's no wonder that I've gotten so fat.
