Yesterday, I started on my first day at my new job. I've never really worked in this industry before, so I have lots to learn and lots more mistakes to make. I think one of the hardest things about this new job is the fact that I have to stand on my feet for most of the day.

Give up? Don't know where I'm working? Drum roll please...

I'm working behind the counter at Melange Magique (for those who don't know, Melange is a local (Montreal) pagan shop). I've had many friends work there and I've been associated with the shop for about 5 years now since I started volunteering at the Montreal Pagan Resource Centre.

It's a temporary position, but I'll be there every day for the next two weeks. I've never worked in retail before (or worked a cash register), so it's a real challenge. I've always had ideas of opening my own cafe someday, so working in a retail shop will give me some idea of what this type of business is like.

It's also putting a real dent in my days, where I usually spend that time doing research and company development for Documentia, so it'll mean later nights as I spend time catching up.

Come visit me if you have a chance!

Coolness! I wouldn't mind working the counter at Melange a try some time in the future, even though I've been told that people will assume that I'm gay if I do. :)

Why would they assume you're gay if you did that? I'm confused.

Also, give me back my cat, and how did you get into my appartment to steal him in the first place?

*Muskoka* would have you know that *she* is female and is quite happy and has been for the past 6+ years with her kitty companion, with perhaps the exception of having to put up with a new, rambunctious little bratling called Miss Friday. :p

As for the gay thing - according to the manager (yeah I did an interview a while back - via Yahoo Messenger no less), most of the clientele seem to assume that any male working there must be gay. Long story. Anyway, I would have had the position if my schedule was incompatible with the store's needs. :-)

Give Muskoka my apologies then, and would you ask her if she has a long-lost brother named Pan-Pan? They seem to be about the right age.

As for the gay thing, that's just really weird. I mean, yes, it's not good to assume everyone is straight, but to assume everyone who works in a certain place is gay is just as stupid.

*shakes head*

Humanity astounds me.

Oooh. You'll enjoy it. And probably learn lots too. Don't worry about the cash register. If you rub her behind the data leads and shower her with endearments before each shift, she will be a happy register and not give you any problems.

Yes, but Ms. Carrotte might not approve of the new woman.

The brace helps alot, but surprisingly, it's my back that is killing. It might have something to do with the 40 lbs of potatoes that I'm carrying on the front of me...

Good luck. I refrain from further comment.

:P

That sounds like some heavy duty work hours...

Just remember to sit down once in a while.

I hope you enjoy your experience, the good always outweighed the bad for me. By far.

Good Luck

That so cool! You'll do great. Mistakes, I doubt it you're a natural. Just remember to smile and to never panic and never freak out.
Have fun
