Stated in a meeting with the head of development, the tech pubs writer (moi), and the head of marketing:

HoM: So why are we late in delivering this product?

HoD: Part of the problem is because the developers didn't return the review copies of the documentation back to the writer by his deadline.

HoM: Well that's not surprising since just the User's Guide is over 400 pages long! (looks at me meaningfully) We're going to have to find a way to make the user docs shorter so that we can keep to our schedule! (laughs)

Moi (inner monologue): Well maybe if you produced a product that wasn't so convoluted in its design, it wouldn't require over 450 pages to explain it.

Ah, the memories that brings back. :-P

Still, I'm trying to get back into the field, so I hope you'll have something to say to my latest post. For that matter, I hope [livejournal.com profile] toughlovemuse may have a wise word or two for me as well...

Hey Hobbes,

Thanks for the book, and for signing it for me. I have to say that I find it really interesting so far. I've read about half of it so far before bed last night. I really like your stories. Although I wasn't sure what to make of the first one in the book, the one by Dylan. It left me rather confused as to what the point was.. And I was debating about whether or not to mention it but I found a few spelling and grammer errors. I'm sorry if I'm being too honest again..

But overall I really love the book so far. I really enjoy a good story. Does wonders for relaxation. I'll never forget the one about Jack and the tall tales of story-telling with the rabbit cutting down all the wheat.. And the one with the giants was pretty good too.

You'll have to let me know the next time you have a live story-telling. I would love to attend.

Sometimes stories don't have a "point" other than the whole story being the "point". The first story is an outrageous tall tale that gets crazier and more unbelievable as it goes. It's a genre and not everyone likes it.

As for the errors, we will have to fix that stuff up in the second printing. After awhile, it gets tough to stay objective enough to spot everything. Hopefully, the errors don't distract too much from the enjoyment of the stories.

I have a couple of shows coming up in October, so I'll let you know!

The errors do not distract me at all really. My mother (when she was younger) was an English teacher, and was always incredibly tough on me with spelling and grammer and stuff, so I can't help it. I guess it's instinctual now.

I really enjoy them though. Can't wait to read more tonight.
