I was listening to CBC 940 AM radio this morning where they were interviewing Mayor Gendron of Huntingdon about his ruling that religious wear went against the dress code of working in his office. He stated that if he were interviewing a woman who would insist on wearing her hijab at work, she would be disqualified as a candidate automatically.
Huntingdon Mayor Stéphane Gendron, an outspoken radio talk-show host, said government institutions should be totally secular - no crucifix in the National Assembly, no prayer at city council meetings, no hijabs in municipal offices. "If I had a secretary at city hall who wanted to wear the veil, I'd have a problem," he said.

He also stated in the interview that religion is simply a fairy tale for adults and it would be stupid for anyone to seek guidance from God to influence their political views. Big believer in the separation of Church and State, he is.

BTW, I also believe in the separation of Church and State, but I don't see how wearing a hijab, pentacle, or a cross has anything to do with how you do your job. Have we copied the Don't Ask Don't Tell policy from the military and applied it to public office too?
